Harbin in North East China's Heilongjiang province is a largely industrial city but is becoming increasingly well known as the location of the Ice Lantern Festival held from mid-January to mid-February each year. I suspect this event will become increasingly and deservedly well known in coming years and is well worth a visit - just don't forget the thermal underwear as temperatures can drop to -40C below.
